I'm a board member who recently voted to bring on Optimum as our property management company. I'm already quite disappointed in them.
They recently sent out a mailing that sought public comment on a set of large fee increases including a 340 percent increase in late fees. The problem is that this mailing was not professional in many ways. For example, Optimum did not provide the Board of Directors with a copy of the mailing ahead of time. Our board president learned that the mailing had been sent out from a fellow homeowner.
Next, the mailing suggested that the proposal for these large fee increases had received the preliminary approval of the Board of Directors.
To be sure, the property manager has apologized to the Board of Directors for this behavior. Nevertheless, it is a shame that the relationship between me, our homeowners, and Optimum has been strained right off the bat by what appears to be inappropriate behavior. In my HOA, nothing should ever be mailed out without being reviewed by the board president first.
In addition, all statements in the mailing should be 100 percent truthful and accurate.
If Optimum wants to repair the trust they have broken, then they need to demonstrate, in a concrete manner, that they grasp how badly they have let us down.
