Since 2007, NET SMART has offered on-line education coupled with local skills training and centralized validation of learning to improve the acute stroke care provided by advanced practice nurses (nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists) and stroke coordinators. NET SMART aims to improve stroke victim access to evidence-based acute treatment and secondary prevention, and our fellows have demonstrated an absolute 7% increase in the rate of tPA administration to patients with acute ischemic stroke at their work sites (Alexandrov, A.W. et al. 2009).
