Update: just had my transponder checked elsewhere this morning and it's good. Seems to me that Randy's equipment was the issue, so I've requested a refund and haven't received a response...
2nd update: his response to refund request was, "F you." See picture of text message. What a great business.
Randy showed up 45 minutes late to our appointment and his testing equipment was not charged and ready to go. After charging his equipment for another 30 min we finally proceeded to do the test... He insisted on pulling my transponder out of the tray to get the serial number (not sure if he needs that or not), but he insisted and did so immediately. He then ferociously jammed it back in quickly and started running the test to which he said failed. I asked how that could be possible when I've had no problems with ATC whatsoever and he had no explanation at all other than "it's an old transponder." I told him that I had 3 more transponders in my garage and would like to try another one, so I put a different one in. The next one he said didn't even show up on his equipment which I didn't dispute because I have no knowledge of that one to be in working condition. However, I asked to put the original one back in myself and test again because I do know that one to be in perfect working condition and he said ok. He ran the test again and told me it failed and then went inside my aircraft to check connections. He then tells me he smells "burning electronics" and forcefully asks how I want to precede. I told him I didn't smell anything and I thought he was now making things up and asked when the last time his equipment was calibrated or certified to which he hastily and aggravated said "yearly" but couldn't provide any documentation proving his equipment was in order. He then demanded $200 for his services and immediately began using foul language and threatened to call police when I questioned his testing equipments credibility. One particularly funny detail is that as he was leaving I noticed his vehicle tags to be expired by over a year.
I will be getting another test on Monday and will see what's what, but this experience with Randy was ridiculous to say the least. I wish I had had the extra time to sit around and wait for the police on Wednesday, but I had other things planned and was already over an hour behind schedule due to Randy's tardiness. I hope he uses my $200 to renew his tags and get his equipment calibrated.

Great job. Came to the plane, very professional and a great price. Really shows that he loves aviation. Highly recommended.
