Townsend was an outrageously successful, very straightforward CEO with American Express and Avis Rent-A-Car. Here is what he said in his one-page chapter entitled "Headhunters". "Occasionally you may have to go outside to fill an opening. If you use a headhunter, go to the trouble of writing out your description of just the man you need (in your own words, not job description boiler-plate). When he sends someone for an interview, spend some time with him, even if at first glance he's not what you're looking for.
