I give Brett two stars instead of one because he did put us on fish the two days we were in Key Largo. My dad and I went down for a two day trip and decided to use Brett for both days. It was our first time ever fishing for tarpon, bonefish, and permit. My dad and I are, in no way, expert fishermen, but we do know our way around a rod and reel. For a large portion of our 2 days with Brett, he treated us like we were idiots, cussing and yelling at us if something went wrong. Our spinning reels knotted up a few times (mainly because he had just re-spooled them), and instead of calling it no big deal, handing us another pole, and telling us to go back to fishing while he repaired the minor problem (like a guide should do), he cussed and yelled at us, made us feel stupid, and spent 20 or 30 minutes repairing the lines while my dad and I just sat there like scolded children. If we made a mistake on hooking a fish or scaring one away, he would again yell and cuss at us. On the second day, it was a total washout, but I give Brett kudos for taking us out anyway. We left an hour and half after we were supposed to go out and came in 2 hours early (because of the weather, not because of Brett) and spent another hour and a half sheltering from lightning at a ranger station. We only spent about 2 hours fishing that day (out of what was supposed to be an 8 hour trip) , and Brett still charged us for "3/4's of a day" (even though there is nothing on his website for 3/4's of a day). I understand that Brett had costs associated with taking us out, but we definitely felt cheated by the amount he charged us for that day. We decided not to argue with him and left to enjoy the rest of our time together. All in all, we caught a few decent-sized fish and had a great time as father and son, but the yelling, cussing, and intimidation that we experienced with Brett put a bit of a damper on our fishing trip. It was so outrageous that my dad and I decided to just laugh it off and enjoy our time together. We definitely plan on making another trip down to the Keys, but we won't be using Brett again. Brett definitely knows what he's doing, but his attitude towards us was definitely a problem. I won't be recommending Brett to any of my friends or family.
