I believe it is possible with good support (physically, mentally, emotionally), education, and space for the woman to labor in the ancient wisdom of an undisturbed birth. Doula is a Greek word that means "woman who serves." I serve women by educating about pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum time. I visit the mother in her home before birth to educate her and create a birth plan. I also support her in labor at her home and in the hospital and stay until 2 hours after the birth. During labor I clarify what is happening, teach comfort techniques, and guide the birth partner to support the laboring mom. I also serve as newborn overnight nursery care and breastfeeding support.
