Acting from Within Workshops, Literacy through the Arts Workshop, WRITING, Music, Scripts North Capital the Musical is a bold and exciting new production that explores these very themes through the eyes of a humble cook. Written and conceptualized by Jiiko Ozimba—a passionate native of Washington, D.C.—North Capital follows the tale of one Lester King as he lives through the various stages in the Districts’ history. The musical illuminates aspects of African American history in the District, bringing to light issues that have become much more relevant in recent times.
North Capital the Musical is a careful collaboration by several members of the DC arts community. Written by Jiiko Ozimba, the musical features songs written by her, as well as Pete Chatmon and Skip Mahoney. With its powerful message and rousing music, North Capital seeks to capture the feel of Old Washington, D.C. and its rich African American culture.
