A fluorescent of older outdated style blows out…what to do? He shakes his head, he procrastinates, he usually puts the decision to his upper management hoping they will know-if he replaces the tube with an LED for the ballast, the ballast is likely, if not surely to burn within an average of the next 3 proximate years…
He then thinks of the obvious-his scenario-he has say 7 warehouses with 1200 fixtures each containing 2 ballasts wired in parallel, so if one goes, the other(s) will not illuminate. He replaces all (2400 x 7) 16,800 lamps with LED’s for ballasts-rather than retrofit (direct wire) and spends $537,600 in lamps alone-separate from costs of labor installing them. Now, in 3 years those ballasts blow, and out the door with another 500K+ for direct wire lamps as these bought will NOT function in this scenario-thus the dilemma. Then to go on… every manager with tubes is facing this every day and now we have D & B with the answer to this nagging and unavoidable problem.
