DO NOT USE EXPRESS KITCHEN and BATH (EKB)!! Please keep searching for a truly qualified company to complete your work. See our story and videos of what Express Kitchen and Bath did to us before we had to stop all work and hire another contractor. https://www.facebook.com/groups/563736807532763/ If we had the choice between hiring EKB, or hiring a group of grade school kids, we would have been better off with a group of 10-year-olds. Bill Vranicar, owner, will state that we did not allow him to finish the job. He states that it is a rough project and should not be evaluated until the job is completed. If we had hired someone to put in a driveway, and the foundation stones were not graded and packed down prior to applying blacktop, and you see the blacktop machine ready to go, wouldn’t you stop the work? You do not have to be a professional contractor to see that a project is going wrong. EKB removed drywall, did a small amount of electrical and plumbing and removed and reinstalled drywall. The drywall taper left the walls ill prepared for the painters. Ridges, bumps, tape exposed, and hole repairs were not smooth to the finish. This would be what we would expect from a 10-year-old. The painters arrived and were to repair the drywall issues prior to applying paint. They sanded a small amount but proceeded to paint over ill prepared walls. Every imperfection showed when the sunshine came through the windows. Bill wanted to repair the walls at the end of the project when all the new fixtures and cabinets were in place. We would not allow this to happen. After a heated phone exchange, Bill agreed to send another subcontractor to repair the walls. He repaired twice as many spots as we had noted. Bill verified this fact in an email. The shower space was waterproofed in preparation for the tile installation. Again, we wish we had hired our local grade school kids as the job would probably have looked better. The spacers were placed both vertically and horizontally throughout the job. The decorative border was crushed into the space leaving no room for grout. Tiles were very misaligned and spacing was very uneven. Nails and screws were used to hold up the tiles. This penetrated the water barrier. We stopped all work to have it inspected by other industry professionals. Three tile installers and two product representatives have since evaluated the space. All five agreed that the entire space needs to be removed and reinstalled. We have a written statement from the Schluter representative that our warranty is null and void due to the excessive number of nails penetrating the water barrier in addition to other noted problems. The shower floor pan was not protected during tile installation and needs to be replaced as well. Yes, we stopped the work each time we were not satisfied with the workmanship. Bill’s solution was to “pop some tiles” to repair the shoddy installation job. All five industry professionals noted that method would lead to future problems. We drove to EKB to talk to the owner about the problems. We presented photos showing the damage and shoddy workmanship. We let him know we did not want any EKB employees or subcontractors back onto our property. All work was to stop. Bill became enraged yelling expletives directly at my wife. As he threw us out of his business Bill shouted, “Lawyer up, B%$@!) We called the police. We did receive notice of arrival times and dates for our subcontractors. However, on the scheduled days, we were told they were sick, on other jobs, or were not going to show for a multitude of reasons. We had to constantly contact Bill to find out what was happening regarding construction. We made our home available for 30 days (M-F) and they were only here for 12 of those days. To get our bathroom to its current state of completion, approximately 45 hours will be needed for shower and tile demolition and re-installation as well as reworking of the electrical work as it does not meet code. We had a new company come out and measure for cabinets. They determined the previous measurements by EKB were incorrect which would have created our next big issue with EKB. We do not recommend using Express Kitchen and Bath. They hire poor quality subcontractors and their electrician is not certified. EKB has $17,000 of our money and has completed less than $3,000 of contracted work. NO SUPERVISOR OR PROJECT MANAGER EVER CAME OUT TO EVALUATE THE PROGRESS AND PROBLEMS OF THIS PROJECT!! Hire your local grade school kids instead of EKB. We are confident they could do a better job!!
