The Sun Capsule story started in November 1979. Like most entrepreneurship ventures, this business started in the garage. After many tireless hours, the first vertical tanning booth was created. It’s hard to believe almost thirty-seven years have passed since the first thirty minute “handmade” Sun Capsule tanning booth rolled out of that modest “assembly plant”. In the early days, nobody had any idea how this rudimentary machine would evolve over the next few decades. Not only would it evolve, Sun Capsule would continuously push the envelope in performance and technology. With the help of some brilliant people, Sun Capsule is still changing the face of the industry today when it comes to vertical tanning. The original 30 minute Sun Capsule would improve it’s time to twenty minutes and then fifteen. In 1994 a European lamp manufacturer, Cosmedico, was attempting to break into the U.S. market and chose Sun Capsule to help introduce a pioneering new concept in tanning lamps. The introduction of the 160-watt Sun Capsule VHR tanning lamed changed the industry overnight. The union that was formed then is still there today and changed the paths of both companies, as well as the industry as a whole. The goal of both companies is to maximize performance by taking the tanning lamp to its limit. The initial twelve minute booth went to down to just ten minutes. Then with the revolutionary 200-watt ballast the first ever nine minute tanning booth was born. The next step was a 220-watt ballast driving a two-meter lamp that contained groundbreaking phosphor and pushed the barrier even further with it’s eight minute exposure time. The current Vitesse 250-watt sixty lamp booth uses and industry first 250-watt ballast and that produced a seven minute tan that defies logic. This booth by far produces the deepest, darkest tan on the market. These are just some of the examples of industry firsts by Sun Capsule.
