Choosing an outfitter for your summer horseback adventure or that long-anticipated hunting trip can be a difficult decision--especially if you've never done it before. There are a lot of outfitters out there. You want one that instills confidence in his ability to safely provide you the experience you want. At SJO, we build a relationship with you--our prospective guest--so you know who we are, what we can do, and what you should expect from us. We want to earn your trust...and keep it. San Juan Outfitting was started in 1979 on the outskirts of Bayfield, Colorado. In 1985, a Durango couple, who had worked for the founder for three years, bought the business. Over the next 23 years, they expanded permits and built a solid reputation for quality service and great hunting. On April 30, 2008, Mark & Sharon Bracich purchased the business and moved it to the Rocking Bar MB Ranch north of Pagosa Springs, conveniently placing the headquarters between the trail heads for the two largest permit areas. Our specialty is building great memories for our guests, providing each with friendly, personal attention. Gentle, sure-footed mountain horses, knowledgeable guides & wranglers, great food, excellent equipment, and first-rate service ensure your enjoyment. SJO offers a variety of Pack Trips into the Weminuche Wilderness--to our base camp at 10,200 feet, from which we can ride, fish or hike; or along a 7-day, 50-mile loop to visit high alpine lakes and streams; or, for the even-more adventurous, along the Continental Divide Trail covering over 100 miles in 8 days. For hunters, SJO offers guided hunts and drop camps for archery, muzzleloader, and rifle seasons. For rifle, we also offer full-service, self-guided hunts. We hunt the Weminuche Wilderness and the Piedra Primitive Area of the San Juan National Forest. San Juan Outfitting, LLC is a registered outfitter with the State of Colorado, Reg # 2596, and operates under a special use permit from the USDA Forest Service.
