Sharon McCracken
Ms. McCracken is now working to expand public awareness and resources for the high functioning adults who are on the autism spectrum and provide support for their caregivers. The social group gives an environment in which they can begin their journey to reconnect with society and each other.
This organization sponsors the social group of adult children and parents on the autism spectrum. They have fun, learn from each other and staff within a group and the community. The group is involved in community activities, is offered opportunities to apply newly learned behavior, communication, socialization skills, and develops experience for employment. The social group helps our community learn more about asperger and high functioning autism to reduce the associated stigma.
MS. McCracken additionally provides individual and group therapy in the areas of ADHD, Drug and Alcohol. Ms. McCracken and volunteers work long hours with other professionals to relieve distress in Western North Carolina.

I have had the good fortune to have met with Ms McCracken. My son has been diagnosed with ADHD and is a high functioning Aspergers child. I have sought help for him through many counselors and Mental Health Organizations. I was recommended by a friend to take my son to see Ms McCracken. My friend said she had taken her child for therapy to Ms McCracken and there was a remarkable change in her child. I took my son to see Ms McCracken, Ms McCracken spoke with the child and myself and provided positive structure for the home and behavior modification. She was very clear about the importance of consistency . After four sessions and following Ms McCrackens instructions, there was a remarkable change in my relationship with my child. I was able to bond with my child and enjoy our time together. I took my son who was experiencing depression, and poor impulse control, and appeared to have inability to focus on simplest tasks. He was unable to complete homework assignments and talked constantly. Ms McCracken provided me with a high structure schedule for my family in our home. She stressed the importance of positive reinforcement when my son exhibited good behaviors and give him praise for appropriate action. When he was out of control he was placed in time out area where there was no stimulation so he could calm down and self soothe . I can not praise Ms McCracken enough for making such a difference in mine and my child's life.
