We purchased out dog from a pet store that was selling puppies from the Kisme Companion breeder. He is a pure bread Cairn terrier with a pedigree. He is seven years old now. He is a wonderful loving dog but has severe skin allergies (Atopic Dermatitis) which is an inherited disease. We have spent thousands of dollars at a pet dermatologist that had him on Immunotherapy, steroids and prescription food. We have noticed limited improvement from the immunotherapy. He started showing symptoms around two years old. At first it was just licking his feet obsessively. It progressed over the years to obsessive scratching and finally chewing off his fur and leaving his skin raw. There have been times where I have considered euthanasia because he was suffering so horribly. In addition to his Atopic dermatitis he is allergic to fleas which is common in this breed. Most of his life he has had to wear a cone even to this day he has too. The only thing that we found has significantly helped him is a lyrica body dog suit that protects his skin from the allergens. But when our family isn't home he has to wear his cone. I would not recommend buying a cairn terrier or any other breed that has a higher risk of developing this disease such as Boston Terriers, Boxers, West Highland White Terriers, and many more.
