Quilting is my passion and I have made it my profession. It has been taught from generation to generation in my family for over 200 years. My Grandmother started teaching me the art of sewing and quilting when I was 7 years old. I learned all kinds of different stitches and knots and how to piece quilts together by hand. We would take squares of flannel and fabric and make throw quilts to practice on and then when she felt I was skilled enough, we went on to learn the basics of bed quilts. Some of my fondest memories is of my Grandmother and I packing up and taking our quilts for judging at the local county fairs. We won many a ribbons and awards for the quilts we made alone and together. We would go to as many quilting bees as we could during the summer months. It was always so much fun to sit under a willow tree with 15 other quilters and chat about whatever was on the breeze at that moment. I got to learn a wealth more knowledge from some of the other ladies that I sat next to. Some short cuts, some different fancy stitches and an even great deal more patterns than my grandmother had taught me. My husband and I work closely together on our machines and in our home studio. He was very intrigued when I talked of quilts and what I did for a living when we met and he loves it even to this day to watch me turn out a new design or a new quilt for a customer. It just never gets old. I love the look on a customers face when they see their finished quilt. I know that they will have that quilt to pass on to the next generation, or feel proud to give it as a gift to a loved one to have and to cherish until the day they pass it on.
