Fitzpatrick Coal Co. offers some of KY’s high quality, low sulfur coal for sale. Our coal is produced from the Elkhorn & Hazard coal Seams. Coal Mining in eastern KY in the present day offers a wide variety of challenges. Most of the high quality to mid grade coal deposits that are feasible to mine are all gone. They’ve been mined out for some time. What is remaining & that can feasibly be mined are coal seams that are very thin & contain “rock partings” through the coal vein that cause the coal to have to be “Washed”, or cleaned through a Coal Preparation Plant to separate the coal from those tiny particles of rock & clay. The KY coal industry, once full of small operators or Independents, is now overwhelmingly in the hands of the large coal corporations who control most of all the good quality coal reserves left. These companies change hands every few years, Bankruptcies are frequent & the state’s coal deposits are exhausted by over production. The “Corporate Coal Co’s” haven’t figured out that if you over produce your commodity then you drive down the demand & then down goes the price of coal, as well as you shorten the life of that particular coal deposit. After 40 + years the corporations haven’t caught on to this. This act of constant over production has resulted in a scarce amount of mineable coal deposits left. Not all coal can be feasibly mined. There are certain veins of coal that will never come out of the mountain. They can not be safely or economically mined or both. I’ve witnessed so many attempts by business men & women to try their hand at the coal business & more often than not, they fail. They lose enormous amounts of money fast. They are lied to, deceived, shown forged & false documents & reports, cheated out of money they’re owed, etc. I’ve even been victim to some of these tactics myself. I’ve learned the hard way how to avoid them. Besides selling Coal & a variety of Mining Services, I have began to offer consulting for those entering into the coal industry. I wanted to be able to offer my insight & knowledge so that one doesn’t get taken advantage of, deceived, cheated, etc. The industry is full of those wishing to do others wrong. That’s why we are here to cut through & bypass all of that, & offer honest, fact based analysis & information to those who are beginning a project or venture into the coal business.
