The town of Timpson has been making history for over 125 years. To record this history, the town needed a newspaper. The Timpson Times (now Timpson & Tenaha News) was began as a weekly paper. The editors were J. H. Truit and J .M. Truit. The newspaper has served Shelby County and East Texas since 1885 under several different names and owners. It has a distribution of 2000 in Shelby, Nacogdoches, and Panola Counties with additional rack distribution of 500.
