Tina Snyder is owner, operator and head trainer of Safe Haven Equine Learning Center. Tina started her journey with horses as a small child, riding and competing in hunt seat equitation, then on the jumpers. At the age of 14, she moved up to the National Junior jumper level and from there to eventing. Tina has worked with many of the "greats" including George Morris, Bruce Davidson, Alois Podosky, and Fritz Oliver. After competing nationally and internationally, she retired from competition in the late 70s.
Today Tina is a well-respected instructor in various disciplines of riding and equine education, including hunt seat, eventing and dressage. She incorporates natural horsemanship in all aspects of training. One of her unique endeavors is the coaching of young trainers as well as basic horsemanship knowledge through ground training to include equine agility classes for the non-rider.
At Safe Haven students learn complete horsemanship, not just how to ride, and all this is done with rescue horses. Tina has been closely involved with Days End Farm Horse Rescue for over 20 years. She serves on the board of directors in addition to volunteering her time to develop horse handling skills for volunteers of all ages. She lives by the motto: "There are no bad horses, just horses in bad situations -- each deserving of a fair chance at a better life." Most of the rescue horses at Safe Haven are today top-level show horses as well as teaching horses. Students are taught from the beginning how a horse perceives his world and how to effectively and compassionately form a bond of understanding and trust. Tina's greatest ambition is to educate people about horses, riding and horse care, thus reducing the population of horses brought into the rescue system. Students are strongly encouraged to "help out" with chores, vet and farrier visits and attend clinics to create a well-rounded educational experience. Many of Tina’s students have gone on to vet school, training positions and have been successful in other avenues of horse-related careers.
Safe Haven is a small, family friendly farm where friendships are made and horses are loved.
