S. since 1999. The Project provides free (donated) reading material in response to inmates' letters. We learned of the Project when a member's son moved from Washington, D. C., back to Tuscaloosa after having volunteered with them. Several of us were moved by the simplicity and humility of the project and were spurred to help out upon learning they had a backlog of letters. Two academic library staff, a retired bookseller and a retired teacher met in January of 2009 and the local chapter was formed. Our work is done solely on donated time and resources.
