As a kid growing up on Lake Huron, I have many treasured memories of warm sunny days on the water. I moved away for 30 years only to return and find our beloved lake more beautiful than ever. In these works of art, I hope to convey a sense of beauty, serenity and truth that live in my heart. My current series, Thumb Rocks, captures the magic and beauty of landmarks from Michigan’s Thumb. She observes everything around her in order to paint what she does, which is abstract watercolor painting. She is very much influenced by nature and it's cycles. She does not paint with recognizable objects in her paintings because she wants the viewer to use his or her own imagination to see what he or she wants to see. Sylvia enjoys using her imagination to present to the viewer new ideas he or she has not experienced before. Sylvia feels she cannot paint a more beautiful painting than what nature presents in it's natural state. For that reason, Sylvia shoots photography in order to capture natural beauty with her own brand of vision. Stopping to raise a family and care for a sick relative, Sylvia has gone right back to art with gusto.
