In May 1938, Edward E. Hoekzema founded the Frost-Pack Distributing Company in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Frost-Pack was the first West Michigan, full-service distributor to the food service industry. Under Mr. Hoekzema's leadership, Frost-Pack proved to be a true innovator in West Michigan - the first to market frozen food products to restaurants, deliver ordered product to customers in a refrigerated compartment, occupy a frozen food warehouse facility and develop a wholesale cash and carry operation. Mr. Hoekzema and Frost-Pack were instrumental in the formation of the Sysco Corporation in 1969. Frost-Pack and eight other independent regional foodservice distributors merged to form Sysco Corporation.
