The CertiPUR-US® program is administered by a not-for-profit organization that addresses consumer questions about flexible polyurethane foam. With evaluative parameters spanning content, emissions, and performance, the CertiPUR-US® program covers foam that is used in upholstered furniture, pillows, mattresses and other bedding products. The CertiPUR-US® certification is based on rigorous standards based on current regulations, as well as scientific research.
CertiPUR-US® program compliant foams are made without PBDEs, TDCPP, or TCEP and certain other flame retardants. They are also produced without heavy metals, such as lead and mercury; formaldehyde, ozone depleters, and certain phthalates that are regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Certified foams are low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) emissions for indoor air quality (less than 0.5 parts per million).
More than 1,000 mattress and upholstered furniture manufacturers and retailers participate in the program by selling products containing certified foam. The organization's strict protocol extends beyond initial certification to include re-certification after the first six months and annually thereafter. Random visits and product sampling are part of an aggressive verification program. The CertiPUR-US® program gives consumers comfort and confidence in the foams they bring into their home.
