Some players feel intimidated when they’re up against the veteran billiards players. But some pool leagues actually have handicapping rules. They put a handicap on the expert billiards players so everyone can join in have a shot at winning. It allows a more equal chance of making it to the finals. Usually, handicaps involve penalizing the expert player when they make the “mistakes” that have been agreed upon before the game. Once your skills have grown, you might be able to join in other local tournaments or the non-handicapped ones. Keep in mind though that not all excellent player win the local pool leagues. In fact, statistics suggest that players with intermediate skills are more likely to have a consistent score than the experts. Most pool leagues have a payout so this might increase the stakes. It might also make competition a tad tighter, which is great if you really want to amp up your pool game. When organizing a team to play in the pool leagues, make sure you know how long the entire league will take. You don’t want to let in players that can’t commit to the game and can’t be there when the billiards games are scheduled. To find out how long a game will last, try to multiply the number of games in a match and the playing teams.
