The Dr. Bowie Scholarship Foundation was established in 1994 as Artistic Expressions Plus, partnering with the Carver Cultural Center in 1997 for our first performing arts after school program, branching out on our own after one year, adding academic tutorials and, at least, one balanced meal for kids. food pantry and educational, community events. We partnered with the YWCA San Antonio from 2000 - 2005, received 501c (3) status in 2002 and have been servicing families in need since then. We are, now, a Peace Center, located in Kirby, Tx. servicing families in Kirby, Converse, Sunrise and the greater northeast, San Antonio, providing our signature performing arts program, a food pantry, educational, community events, a drama club for seniors and a weekend coffee shop fundraiser, promoting healthy eating and exercise. We are also the proud sponsor of the Original Mississippi Freedom Riders, San Antonio, since the Freedom Riders' 50th Year Reunion in Jackson, Mississippi, 2011. We established "Get on the Bus with the Original Mississippi Freedom Riders" at that time. They have been honored at our 2011 Juneteenth Celebration,, St. Philip's College President's Lecture Series and 2014 MLK Celebration. Kirby, Tx and Judson ISD hosted our first MLK Parade, Youth Summit and Panel Discussion in 2014. This program has been requested across the country and we will present our first "Get on the Bus with the Original Mississippi Freedom Riders" Cross Country, Voter Awareness tour in 2015 and on the Bus are the cities of Kirby, San Antonio, Galveston, Tx. and Niagara Falls, NY. We will be in NY January 13th - 15th for the Niagara Falls MLK Celebration and in Texas, January 15th - 17th for our own, historic MLK Celebration.
