Our mission is to produce plays that dance on the line between comedy and tragedy, taking the light of life seriously and the serious lightly, to create a space where, in Robert Frost's words, "the work is play for mortal stakes."   We welcome under Thalia's Umbrella other artists-visual, physical, musical-who also dance on that line. Our first production will be A DAY IN THE DEATH OF JOE EGG, by Peter Nichols, produced in cooperation with ACT Theatre's Central Heating Lab, in January and February of 2013.

This unique program gives everyone who auditions a part. It is an inclusive program that serves over 900 people a year and has ticket sales exceeding 6,500. The program is funded by the City of Bellevue and the Bellevue Youth Theatre Foundation. The program builds self esteem and confidence in youth and has won the Washington State Governors Arts Award, the National Parks and Recreation Dorothy Mullen Award, the Retired Senior Volunteers Award, the Washington State Recreation and Parks Program Spotlight Award, the Bellevue Barrier Buster Awards, and is part of the Youth Program Quality Assessment, a nation wide program.

The Broadway Center for the Perfoming Arts is known for its leadership in presenting world-class performing artists, providing one of the largest performing arts education programs in Washington State, and preserving Tacoma's historic theaters. The Broadway Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and manages the largest complex of theaters between Seattle and Portland: Pantages Theater (seating 1169, built in 1918, and restored in 1983); the Rialto Theater (seating 742, also built in 1918, and restored 1991); and Theatre on the Square (seating 302, built in 1993).

Gold From Straw Theatre Company exists to produce innovative and exciting works of theater that celebrate and nourish the human spirit. With a commitment to the highest artistic standards, we stage an eclectic array of new works and classics that are raw, substantial and sophisticated while simultaneously sincere, and optimistic. Gold From Straw is a gathering place for artists, audiences, students, teachers. As our name suggests, we recognize and embrace an element of alchemy in theatre ??? where so many share a single focus, transformation on some level is inevitable. Our work is meant not only to interest and entertain, but also to remind us of what we share. As we practice it, theatre creates environments where we all can celebrate our common humanity.
