Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is the safest, most advanced way for doctors to view the human body without surgery. Since MRI uses magnetic fields and radio waves, which occur naturally around us, there is no exposure to ionizing radiation (i.e. X-ray or CT). The MRI unit consists of a large magnet, antenna, and a computer. During the MRI exam, the hydrogen atoms in you body receive radio signals from the MRI unit. These signals, which are totally harmless, are returned by your body and processed by the computer. These images are then interpreted by our Radiologists.

Zachary M. Kilpatrick, Jr., MD, maintains a private practice located in West Columbia, South Carolina. Dr. Kilpatrick is a dedicated radiologist, having completed several post-graduate programs in an array of specialties including in MRI and advanced imaging at the esteemed ProScan MRI educational facilities. Dr. Kilpatrick has been practicing for over 15 years in diagnostic radiology, with specific clinical interest in adult and pediatric radiology. Aside from using imaging to diagnose and treat diseases within his patients, Dr. Kilpatrick performs outpatient care locally and speaks regionally to colleagues and healthcare professionals. Board certified in his field, Dr. Kilpatrick also is a member of several medical organizations, like the Radiological Society of North America, in order to remain abreast in medical advances.
