He started hunting as a youngster and killed his first deer at ten years old. In 1975, Spook was 13 years old and talked his mom into buying his first bow. He only new six people who owned bows at the time, and they were all grown men. In the mid 1980s, Spook attended the first QDM (Quality Deer Management) meeting in Tennessee. There he met a very knowledgeable wildlife biologist, Grant Woods, and they became good friends. The idea of manipulating the deer heard through habitat management and passing up younger bucks intrigued Spook. His love and passion to hunt and harvest big whitetail deer has grown and Spook is blessed to be able to hunt these majestic animals all over North America. Spook works daily to improve habitat and food sources on properties he owns and/or manages all over America. His hard work and tireless dedication has led to the harvesting of more than 40 bucks scoring more than 160 inches - 20 of these scored over 170" -5 scored over 190 and 5 of them score more than 200". His latest blessing is a 263" monster killed in Ohio. Spook says his family's support and their love for each other and the great outdoors makes him the luckiest guy in the world. Spook has a wonderful wife of 31 years and two awesome kids - Cassie and Coleman ages 21 and 22. Spook's wife Marty and their two kids are his biggest blessings by far. Spook has been hunting on film for more than a decade. His passion for hunting has grown to include many other species. Spook has enjoyed hunts all over the world and blessed to harvest wild sheep, grizzly bears, moose, elk, red stags, Cape buffalo, leopard, lion, polar bear, and mule deer. Next to Whitetails, mule deer are a favorite. His biggest mule deer so far is a 213" gun kill in Utah and a 200" typical killed with a bow. Whether it's chasing mule deer in Utah, red stags in New Zealand, or Cape buffalo in Africa, Spook considers these opportunities as dreams come true. His trip to Africa was one of his favorites because his family and parents were able to go with him. Remarkably, Spook and his father survived a devastating helicopter rescue and subsequent crash in Kyrgyzstan after a Marco Polo sheep hunt. Two men were killed in the crash and Spook was critically injured. This incident was featured on Dateline NBC and Animal Planet's "I Shouldn't Be Alive". It is an absolute miracle from God that they survived and Spook credits all the prayers for this blessing.
