In 1877, Charles C. Stratton moved from Albany, New York, to Macon, Georgia, and established C. C. Stratton & Company. It was located at the junction of the Macon and Brunswick and Georgia Southern and Florida railroads. By 1890, C.C. Stratton & Company was the largest brick-making concern in the State of Georgia.
In 1900, Samuel Taylor Coleman purchased C.C. Stratton in the amount of $1,500.00. That same year, the Company was chartered as Stratton Brick Company.
In 1901, William Elliot Dunwody became associated with Stratton Brick. Mr. Dunwody would later become the owner of Cherokee Brick and Tile Company.
