CARC-Advocates for Citizens with Disabilities, Inc. (CARC) is a private non-profit corporation serving individuals with disabilities in Columbia County, a rural north Florida area. In October 1973, a small group of concerned parents and friends combined resources, recognizing the unmet needs of individuals with mental retardation in Columbia County. This group chartered the Association for Retarded Citizens, Inc. in January, 1974. The adult work training program opened in July, 1974. The name was legally changed to CARC-Advocates for Citizens with Disabilities, Inc. in conjunction with the Association's 20th anniversary to better reflect the broader scope of disabilities currently served.
