The Heart O' Texas Orchid Society is an active member of the Austin Area Garden Council, The American Orchid Society, SouthWest Regional Orchid Growers Association (SWROGA) & Orchid Digest, with member representatives attending affiliation meetings and events.
Joining an orchid society brings you in contact with people from a wide range of backgrounds, with a common interest in orchids. Interests of our members vary widely. Some study the botanical aspects of the more than 35,000 species. Some are serious hybridizers, while others study the various trends of hybridization. Some grow "just for fun", while others grow one or two orchids & simply love looking at a wide array of plants.
Membership in this society is open to anyone interested in growing orchids, with a willingness to exhibit and to further the general interest purposes under consideration by the society to perform literary or committee duties.
Annual dues are $30.00 per individual ($2.00/month prorated after January 31st for new members), $45.00 for two at the same address. You will be given our membership directory with a list of members, the current slate of officers and committee chairpersons and the Society By-Laws. If dues are paid early for the following year you save $5.

Where: 2220 Barton Springs Road; Zilker Botanical Garden Center, Austin, TX 78746

History:
Established in 1961.
The purpose of the Heart O' Texas Orchid Society, a non-profit, educational organization, shall be to stimulate an interest in Orchids, relative to their propagation, conservation growth, cultural methods, nomenclature, and their exhibition.
In June of 1961, the Heart O' Texas Orchid Society was organized by our charter members: Dr. & Mrs. S.W. Bohls, Mr. & Mrs J.D. Fisk, Mr. & Mrs. R. Brooks Oakley, Mr. Ed Peterson, Mr. Colin Seale, Mr. & Mrs. Harold Schmitt and Mr. & Mrs. W.B. Wardlow. Here we are over 50 years later celebrating orchids and carrying on their original vision for the society. We owe them a depth of gratitude for their contribution of extensive orchid knowledge that they freely shared with all who were interested, allowing us to broaden our reach to new and younger generations of orchid growers. Whether you are 12 or 92, we understand and encourage your love of orchids.
