Volunteer organization.

Objectives: Work with legislation, elected representatives, neighboring institutions, like-minded developers and community development organizations to address blight and unemployment rate. Restore commercial district, develop relationship with area schools, address abandoned properties (houses/lots), encourage infill, improve infrastructure (example: sidewalks) and stimulate jobs in the community. Work on voter registration, community education and empowerment.

The Oakland Girls Choir was established in 2005 by Director Kathryn Barnard to give girls an opportunity to experience the joy and beauty of music and to sing in a supportive community of mutual respect and encouragement. Singers come to the choir from cities and townships throughout the Greater Pittsburgh Region. Locally, the Oakland Girls Choir has performed at the New Hazlett Theatre, the Byham Theater, the Benedum Center, the Kelly-Strayhorn Theater, the Carnegie Library, the Pittsburgh Ballet Theater, the Pittsburgh Opera, and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. The Tour Choir traveled to Europe in Summer 2008 and will travel to England and Wales in Summer 2011. Wilkinsburg Sings! is an after-school program taught by Kathryn Barnard at the Hosanna House Child Development

Karing Living Together, Inc. is a park adopter and has the pleasure of taking part in several park and river activities, such as clean-up days in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. Along with the Federal Park and River Restoration Committees, fresh and salt water fishing activities are some of the programs that raise awareness of the environment and improve behavior. Other programs offered include environmental restoration, self-defense and literacy enhancement.
