William James College is a college of psychology that prepares students for careers in clinical psychology, clinical mental health counseling, school psychology, applied behavior analysis, and organizational and leadership psychology. The College uses an experiential education model, which combines academic instruction with supervised clinical experience at more than 350 field placement sites. William James College also offers professional continuing education for psychologists, social workers, nurses, mental health counselors, school psychologists, counselors, other mental health professionals, educators, businessmen and women, psychotherapists, and the community. William James College is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). The Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program and the School Psychology Doctoral Program are accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). The MA/CAGS and MA/CAGS/PsyD in School Psychology are approved programs by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). The MA in Applied Behavior Analysis is approved by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board. Known as Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology (MSPP) since its founding in 1974, William James College officially adopted its new name on May 7, 2015. William James College is home to several educational centers that expand its reach in the community: The Dr. Leon O. Brenner Center for Psychological Assessment and Consultation provides comprehensive psychological assessment to address problems of learning and adjustment for children, adolescents and adults. The Richard I. and Joan L. Freedman Center for Child and Family Development helps connect children and families with appropriate information, providers, resources, and one another to serve their mental health and wellness needs. The Center of Excellence for Children, Families and the Law (CECFL) recognizes the life-changing decisions that are made when children and families come before Courts. The Center promotes multidisciplinary professional education, training and research to support informed professional practice, effective prevention and intervention, and thoughtful jurisprudence.
