' Music Studio is currently offering private piano, clarinet, & harp lessons in Lawrence, KS. Lessons are taught at my in-home studio or virtually over zoom. Lessons are adapted to meet your specific music goals and are designed to encourage musical exploration, creativity, and fun with options to include exploration of other instruments during lessons, including: piano, harp, guitar, ukulele, autoharp, djembe, paddle drum, maracas, mbira, recorder, tone chimes, and more!

We offer a unique and innovative approach to modern music training. Shying away from the conventional, academic methods of teaching, our students learn to play "from the heart". We teach all instruments including guitar, bass, piano, voice, drums, and violin and cover all genres of music including rock, pop, metal, alternative rock, acoustic singer/songwriter, blues and country. Our students remain motivated in their lessons and are much more likely to stick with their instruments for life.

Learning piano CAN be fun. For ages 4 to Adult - Music method books, games and challenges are used in each tailored lesson. "My First Piano Adventures" and "WunderKids" for Pre-K students, and "Piano Adventures" series by Nancy and Randall Faber. Accelerated curriculum and favorite music are tailored for adult beginners. Additional piano study to supplement lessons include classical, contemporary, jazz, and popular selections. Tooled with the piano fundamentals, students are encouraged to play music they love! Love to sing? For ages 8 to Adult - we teach the beginning singer to the advanced. Vocal Studies are based on "Winning Warmups For the Voice" by Kathleen VanDeGraff and "Vocal Beauty Bootcamp" by Clayne Robinson as well as comprehensive technique and pedagogy for the classical, jazz and pop singer. Each lesson is recorded and can be downloaded onto a USB drive or emailed to you after each lesson. The time is now. What are you waiting for?

I have successfully taught piano and bass students ranging in age from 4 to 82. After basics are feeling comfortable, I like to introduce improvisation to my students, something many teachers refuse to do, because they don't feel comfortable with this particular area of music. Not to be confused with just "playing by ear", improvisation draws heavily upon music theory concepts....people who are skilled in improvisation are spontaneously composing music. This skill allows students to participate effectively in jazz, rock, country, blues, praise and worship, and other popular idioms. I do this while still keeping students involved with the so called "classical" repertoire, so that the reading of music never loses it's importance.
