Our Story In 1936 Northwoods Credit Union originally opened as the Northwest Paper Employees Credit Union in a small trailer on mill property. Later that same year we moved into a small office in the mill. We changed our name along with the mill in 1992 to Potlatch Employees Credit Union. We built an office and moved down the road to 1702 Avenue B in 1995. The mill sold to Sappi Fine Paper and we then changed our name to Northwoods Credit Union and began expanding our field of membership to include other Select Employee Groups in 2002. In 2004 we opened the doors on our Cloquet Office expansion with a new teller line and lobby as well as reception desk, 4 new offices and new file room. That same year we also opened a branch in Carlton at 199 Chestnut Avenue, Suite 3 and hired 4 new employees. 2012 was another exciting year with many changes. Our Carlton Office was flooded and suffered an extensive amount of damages. We relocated that office in July to 902 Stanley Avenue. In recent years we have applied and received approval through the State of Minnesota to become open to Carlton, Pine and St Louis Counties. If you live, work, go to school or attend church in Carlton, Pine or St Louis County you are now eligible to open an account at Northwoods Credit Union! We're proud to say that our members have done a great job of telling others how much they like Northwoods Credit Union! We've had many requests to open accounts from people who didn't meet our prior eligibility requirements. With all these requests, we decided it was time to apply with the State of Minnesota to open to the entire county. Only two of these requests with the State of Minnesota were approved in 2010 and we were one of them! We were approved because of our strong financials and our history of providing members with exceptional products and services as well as having a comprehensive plan to continue serving our members well.
