With 100 years of farming experience, the Miles family has developed a brand that is both reliable and of the highest quality. You can expect the Miles family values of honesty, integrity, and dedication from each bale of alfalfa, heifer, and sheep that they raise. Charley Miles moved to Silver Lake in 1904, where he began farming dry-land wheat, rye, cattle, and raising horses. The farm endured decades of adversity throughout the early 1900s until Charles's grandson, Harold, took over in 1967. Harold inherited very little of the land his grandfather had farmed, though he worked hard to expand the farm, transforming sage brush into a combination of range land, irrigated pasture, and farmland. In 1988, Harold's son, Lloyd, and Rebecca Roth were married. They helped to farm Harold's land, in addition to 180 acres of wheel lines--land that Charles had once cultivated. When Harold retired in 2000, Lloyd began all of his father's land. As the farm manager, Lloyd continued to expand the farm, buying more land and cultivating more range land into irrigated crops and pasture. Lloyd worked to refine his techniques, and began baling the farm's hay with six-tie big balers in 2004. With the help of his oldest son, Daniel, Lloyd farmed just less than 800 acres and raised over 100 head of cattle. On August 21, 2009 Lloyd was tragically killed in a farming accident while servicing pivots. At the time, Daniel, 16, was still in high school and much of the land was leased until Daniel could finish high school. In 2010, the farm became incorporated as Miles Hay Farms and since 2012, Daniel has been working to regain this land and to follow in the footsteps of his father and the generations that preceded him. Today, Lloyd's two sons, Daniel and Andrew, own and operate Miles Hay Farms. Their passion and family values are reflected in the quality products that they produce, including premium-quality alfalfa hay, various types of feeder hay, sheep and cattle. Today's iteration of Miles Hay Farms demonstrates a level of respect for the land and a reliance on honest business-dealings that allow for the farm to succeed. Daniel and Andrew know that Miles Hay is about more than just the quality of their forage; it's also about the family values in farming that have been built over 100 years.
