I firmly believe you can create the most original advertising possible but if it doesn't make a favorable impression for the brand and cause one to take action, it's not doing it's job. I've worked for one of the top ad agencies in the world with 400+ employees, I've worked for smaller, regional agencies with no more than 18 souls. I've created and produced campaigns for consumer and B to B brands ranging from Inter-Continental Hotels to Mercedes-Benz to Dirt Devi to Syngenta Agra-Chemical, Inc. and a bunch inbetween. Now I'm on my own at my own choosing. What's better is I get to choose the best talent available based on my client's needs whether it's writing, on-line, photography, animation, production, etc.
