The White Lake Agency's roots date back over 120 years. The State of Michigan's earliest record of our agency is in 1904 when they began issuing licenses, however it is believed they were operating years before that. The agency as it stands was formed by a merger of two local insurance agencies. The first, Covell Ruggles and Volk, the older of the two, was located in downtown Whitehall. The second was the Lipka Agency, located in downtown Montague. Wendell “Pete” Lipka was the founder, starting the agency in the early 1930’s. He ran it until the late 70’s when his son, Don Lipka joined forces with Marv Flanders and renamed the agency the White Lake Insurance Center. In 1985 they sold the agency to Charles “Chuck” Whitman. Chuck was a partner at the White Agency in Fremont at the time, and sold his interest to purchase the White Lake Insurance Center. The agency name was then changed to White Lake Agency, Inc., as it still remains today. In 1990, Allen Rant joined the agency, and eventually purchased the agency from Chuck in 1999 with Chuck's son-in-law, James Welsh. In 2003, Allen purchased James’ stake in the agency, and he and his wife Patricia own the agency to this day. In March of 2006, Allen opened a second office in Spring Lake, named Bridgeview Insurance Agency. His daughter Nicole joined the agency at this time, and became the office manager of the Spring Lake branch. In 2009, Allen’s son Scott joined the agency, and he and Nicole both were appointed as officers of the corporation in 2012. Also in 2012, Allen’s daughter Allison re-joined the agency full time after living out of town for several years.The White Lake Agency is now a full line Independent Insurance Agency, family owned and operated, and dedicated to serving its customers and its community.
