The Desert Vortex was created in 2012 by the Desert Hot Springs Foundation, established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to investigative reporting in the Coachella Valley and the hi-desert of California. The Foundation has not yet received confirmation from the IRS regarding our tax exempt status. Desert Vortex pursues in-depth, high-impact reporting on issues such as local government, education, public safety, health care and the environment. Our reporters also produce stories that hold those in power accountable, while tracking government waste and the misspending of taxpayer resources.
