When the first trails came through the west in the 1800's Point of Rocks was a rest point on the Overland Trail. Rich in history, wildlife, natural beauty, and recoverable minerals. At 6800 feet above sea level we are a high desert climate with severe winters and moderate summers. Access to millions of acres of public land. We serve the traveling public, ranchers and miners, oilfield and truckers. More of an outpost than a community but the folks that find themselves here, for whatever reason, love it. Isolated, Godforsaken, rough, wonderful. Describes the country and the people.
