Humboldt County's cool climate is well suited for Briceland's famous Brut Sparkling Wine, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The winery also makes Arneis and Syrah. Since it's founding by Winemaker Joe Collins and Maggie Carey in 1985, Briceland Vineyards has consistently won awards at major competitions. More than half of the dozens of wines Briceland has entered in prestigious competitions such as the California State Fair, the Orange County Fair, and the SF International Wine Competition have won awards. Winemaker Joe Collins has over 35 years winemaking and grape growing experience and is a practiced winemaker. He has lectured at UC Davis Extension on wine making. In 1990 and 1991, he was the Individual Grand Champion at the California Wine Tasting Championships.
