Founded in 1950, Harold’s Chicken Shack was established by the late Harold Pierce in Chicago, Illinois at 47th and Greenwood. The idea for Harold's Chicken Shack started back when he was much younger; "When I was a child, a Preacher came to our house and ate all our chicken. I told my Mother then that when I got to be a Big Boy I was going to open a chicken restaurant!" As time went on, the business grew, and so did its popularity. Because of this, Harold's transformed from a one location restaurant into a franchise of more than 60 different locations.. Besides being ingrained in local cultures across the state of Illinois, Harold's can now be found across the country, in states like Michigan, Texas, Nevada, and even Georgia. The new location at 4142 167th Street was opened in 2007 after a location in the same vicinity closed. Owners Kyle and Kobie Gill are big personal fans of Harold's, and wanted to fill the hole that was left by the former store closing, and so far, it's been a hit. The store gets visited by a number of Chicago natives and celebrities, such as President Barrack Obama.
