Dr. Ellis was born in Tuskegee, Alabama. He graduated from The University of Alabama-Birmingham in 1995 with honors earning a B.S. degree in biology and a minor in chemistry. Dr. Ellis furthered his studies at the University of Alabama School of Medicine after earning a Dean's Scholarship to study at this prestigious institution of the south. It was during his Internal Medicine Residency in Birmingham, at Baptist Health Systems, that Dr. Ellis developed a passion for patients with renal disease. Dr. Ellis comments, "I see myself and my family members in the eyes of many of my patients...we share the same roots, heritage, and genetic predisposition to hypertension, diabetes, and thus kidney disease." Dr. Ellis went on to pursue a nephrology fellowship at The University of Alabama School of Medicine after completing a Chief Resident Year at The Baptist Hospitals in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. Ellis is double board certified in both internal medicine and nephrology. He has taken his skills in nephrology to a higher level by seeking further training in Interventional Nephrology and renal ultrasound. Dr. Ellis is always challenging himself to become a better physician to his patients by seeking new understanding into the disease processes that challenge them. He is currently working to perfect his interventional skills in limb salvage techniques and peripheral vascular disease. He is passionate about community education and is a frequent presenter at community and regional health fairs. Physician Consultants of Georgia is the next step in the growth of Dr. Ellis. He also served in surgical leadership positions at three civilian hospitals prior to his move to Macon. Not only is Dr. Hetzler a dedicated surgeon who has served both military and civilian patients for more than 30 years, he's a committed family man and community servant.
