Energy is at the core of modern Life. Without it, farmers cannot grow food, factories cannot manufacture things we need, people and goods cannot be transported, there cannot be buildings nor the creature comforts we have grown accustomed to; and the technology could migrate in the realm of theory and our imagination. Pretty much like the life in stone age! We know that this is unlikely. But there is a cost to our insatiable demand for energy. Both in terms of cost to the environment as well as to our pocketbooks. There is a plenty of evidence of the environmental cost from our industrialized economy and high level of consumerism. While leaving that debate aside, we still need to consider its economic impact. Our ever increasing demand for energy is not only straining our quality of life with pollution and making the energy more expensive. In the modern global economic environment, businesses cannot afford to ignore the rising cost of energy and its impact on the competitiveness.
