4th Church of Christ, Scientist, is a branch of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, located in Boston, MA. This branch church is located in the Lakeview neighborhood of New Orleans and was lovingly restored after Hurricane Katrina flooded that section of New Orleans. Our church building is the oldest religious building in Lakeview and is listed in the National Historic Registry. Our Sunday Service begins at 10:30 am including a Sunday School for those under age 20 meeting at the same time. Our Wednesday night testimony meeting begins at 7 pm with readings from our pastor, the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. The Wednesday service also provides an opportunity for those present to share remarks about healing and gratitude. Our Reading Room is open on Tuesdays from 11-2 pm and by appointment by emailing [email protected] or by calling 504-484-0933. The Reading Room provides a quiet place to study the Bible and Christian Science books and magazines. You may also buy or borrow these books. Our church sponsors free public lectures each year as well as Bible studies. We also have a weekly Christian Science Sentinel Radio program on Sunday mornings at 8:30 am on WWWL 1350 AM. Research has been in nonverbal communications, gender differences, and multi-cultural psychotherapy. Selective use of a broad range of cognitive, behavioral, emotional, and spiritual counseling approaches, resolving problems within the social context with available resources, and including a healthy, holistic, individualized approach for each person. Techniques may include awareness exercises, instruction, modeling, communication skills practice, role playing, family sculpture and genogram; dreamwork; homework, etc. Each person is treated with respect and individuality. The optimal treatment modality and the approximate number of counseling sessions is determined through an initial screening of client needs and goals and an individualized treatment plan. Appointments are 50 minutes and range from brief therapy (about 8 sessions) to longer term therapy, dependent on the person(s) and the situation.
