I have received specialized, rigorous training in couples and family therapy. My sub-specialties within couples therapy are rebuilding trusting relationships after pornography, substance abuse, or other type of infidelity. Family therapy I have specialized in helping families resolve co-parenting issues, helping families with grief or loss, and helping children and adolescents who are having behavior problems that are affecting family functioning.
My training and experience include 4 years of doing counseling. I received my bachelors of science degree from Brigham Young University in Marriage, Family, and Human Development. I received a Masters of Marriage and Family Therapy from Utah State University. I have received more than 250 hours of supervision in the practice of marriage and family therapy. Additionally I have been trained in the following evidenced based treatment models: Emotionally Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Illness Management and Recovery, Biofeedback, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I also am experienced in Narrative, Solution-Focused, Bowen, Structural, Experiential, and Strategic therapy.
I have worked in community mental health and in private practice. One advantage of working in community mental health is that I gained a wide range of experience working with a diverse clientelle with a large variety of mental health and relationship issues. Within community mental health I was able to be the specialist in marriage and family therapy and do couples and family therapy for other therapists within the agency. I also specialized in treating clients with substance abuse issues, survivors of domestic violence, clients with severe depression, severe bipolar, and client's with schizophrenia or other type of psychotic disorders. I have a wide range of experience working with children, adolescents, and minority populations.
My practice is built upon empathy, creativity, building hope, and offering clients tools to be able to more fully live life. I am passionate about helping people and about offering therapy that makes a meaningful difference in people's lives. I make it a point in my practice to continue to develop my skills and knowledge of counseling as to be able to more readily offer useful resources to clients.
