Covenant Point Institute: Mission Success
In 2013, the leadership of Covenant Point Institute chose to cease operations effective December 31st. That decision was taken in part because our principal corporate partner experienced economic losses as a result of the US market crash of 2008 and subsequent years of cumulative economic losses. It was determined that we had accomplished our initial mission in the Virgin Islands and other northern Caribbean islands as a faith-based educational institute.
However, Covenant Point Institute’s ministry initiatives continue under the umbrella of Point Ministries. All of us, staff, volunteers, and board would have been elated to continue offering free educational services, but the economic reality of sustaining such premium programs to the community of St. Croix was impractical without endowment funding.
We are extremely elated with the fact that Covenant Point’s had the highest GED passing rate in the Virgin Islands for several test seasons over the four years of program operations. Our overarching strategy of academic and personal success for our clients and the dedicated and very smart instructors gave us a winning edge. None of this would have been possible without the Virgin Island’s Department of Education granting approval to Covenant Point and to our community partners to conduct the program using our unique program methodologies. The staff at the Adult Education testing center were extremely helpful and tremendously supportive.
Finally, and most importantly, the HOVENSA company, its management and staff were the impetus and sustaining force. Special thanks to Hess Oil Virgin Islands, Transducer, and many volunteers who gave our program the lift it needed to achieve what had never been before been achieved. Many community members and industry workers got their GEDs, and other vocational credentials.
Thank you to our students, clients, stakeholders, and to the dedicated interns, paid staff and volunteer staff.
Sincerely and may God honor your efforts in His service.
Isaac J. Schaeffer, Director.
