Family Reconnections, Inc., is a 501(C)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization, Headquartered in Virginia, and licensed in Maryland and the District of Columbia. The mission is to provide free transportation to the residents of Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia who have loved ones incarcerated in various prisons throughout the state of Maryland . The short-term goal is to strengthen family relationships, which will improve the overall psychological well-being of children who may have a parent incarcerated. Studies also show that when a child is able to visit a parent while they are incarcerated, it reduces the likelihood of the child ever becoming an offender. There are many more benefits, but ultimately the goal is to reduce recidivism, and improve community safety.
