It all started with an article in the New York Times in 1991. "Holy Record Breaker $55,000 for First Batman Comic". Advertising art director, Charles Abrams, saw the striking cover art and thought it deserved to be enjoyed as framed art on the wall. But another thought occurred. If the multi-page comic is in a standard picture frame, how do you get to the pages and story behind the cover? And without the hassle of removing the frame from the wall and dismantling it to access the publication. Checking with custom frame shops, just as he expected, there was no such frame product. So Charlie left Advertising to design a solution.
Through trial and error, a year later, in 1992, a working prototype was built and named "SwingFrame," a swing open, changeable frame you don't need to take off the wall. Swing open, Place your comic, Swing shut. The patented SwingFrame design with hidden hinges and sliding gravity lock evolved into many other swing open, changeable frames and display products. The SwingFrame concept opened the door to 25+ years of manufacturing and e-commerce websites with 10+ B2B online stores offering vast collections of indoor and outdoor, wall mount, and floor standing collections of frames and displays. Charles Abrams, the founder and President of Access Display Group, Inc., attributes the company's ongoing success and longevity to the company's dedicated employees and valued partnerships with other display manufacturers.
Before creating SwingFrame and Access Display Group, Charles spent 25 years as art director and creative director with prominent Advertising agencies, starting in 1968 with the highly regarded creative agency Doyle Dane Bernbach New York. He created numerous print ads and television commercials for national and international clients. In 1985, he was hired as Executive Vice President Creative Director at Saatchi & Saatchi Compton, NY, and nominated to the Board of Directors. In 1989, he joined Toronto-based Backer Spielvogel Bates Canada as Vice Chairman and Executive Creative Director. Charles attended the School of Visual Arts in New York and graduated in 1968.
