Over the past thirty two plus years we have designed and detailed hundreds of projects in all sectors of architecture including schools and entire school campuses, churches, hotels, automotive dealerships, office buildings, medical facilities, government offices, fire stations, various commercial projects, condominiums, historical renovations, low income housing and single family residences up to 12,000 square feet. I have managed projects with budgets ranging from several thousand dollars to fifty two million dollars. Construction documents for commercial projects have included as many as 175 sheets of drawings including civil, architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing plans. Projects of this size require a great deal of coordination between the architect and respective structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineers and consultants. The average residential set of construction documents consists of approximately twenty to thirty sheets of drawings and includes architectural plans, site plans, structural plans, details, schedules, specifications, mechanical, electrical and plumbing plans. We have provided consultation services and construction documents for historical projects which require structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing or ADA upgrades due to deterioration to the structure. Some of the renovation projects I have been involved with required upgrades due to code compliance or change of use requirements but it was imperative that only certain aspects of their construction changed so that they could remain on the National Historic Register.
