Dolphin Tale movie features the dolphin Winter. For sculptor and marine life artist Donjo, one creature has been intriguing him for years: the Dolphin. Donjo's muse lead him to a dolphin with a miraculous story of survival. In 2008, a baby dolphin was found by a fishing boat off the coast of Florida. They took her to be rehabilitated at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium . Winter lost her tail and the likelihood of survival dwindled. To protect her spine and keep her alive they decided to build her a prosthetic tail. Donjo heard about Winter and was one of the only people from the public allowed to swim with Winter to help raise awareness for her prosthetic tail.
