Springdale was operated as a private cemetery from 1855 until 1999 & the first burials occurred in April 1857. Following a period of receivership, the Cemetery began public operation late in 2002. About 70,000 burials have taken place since the grounds were opened. Additional graves may be purchased, and areas of the property remain undeveloped. Vistas look into the Illinois River Valley. The Cemetery is the final resting place of the men and women from all walks of life who created Peoria and the surrounding area as we know it today. A walking tour map is available at the office or on the website. The Mausoleum was constructed in 1929, and it was expanded twice. Both traditional burial and niche spaces are available. Services may be pre-arranged to protect against price increases
